Self-consumption or grid injection: what are we talking about?
A solar installation can be designed in two ways: consuming the electricity produced directly, or feeding part of it into the STEG grid. The choice mainly depends on when you consume.
A well-sized installation produces for twenty-five years or more. Production monitoring makes it possible to quickly detect any abnormal drop in output and act before it weighs on your bill.
Which solution to choose?
In a grid-connected installation, the surplus produced during the day is not lost: it goes onto the STEG grid and is deducted from your consumption. This mechanism is what makes self-consumption so attractive without a battery.
Choose a grid connection if:
- Your home is already connected to the STEG grid
- You want to make the most of the surplus produced during the day
- You are looking for the simplest solution to maintain
Choose independence if:
- Your site is isolated, with no grid connection
- You mostly consume during the day, on site
- You accept a higher upfront investment for storage
In summary
Both approaches have their logic: grid connection remains the simplest and most economical choice in most cases, while full independence is mainly justified for off-grid sites. A prior study lets you decide on figures rather than impressions.
